Tiara, Cabbage Seed
25 seeds per packet
Fast maturing, 55 day cabbage that performs well spring through fall with a compact plant that is perfect for small spaces. Tiara is loved by growers for its 0.5-1kg (1-2lbs) heads that are dense and crunchy with a short internal core. Unlike most early maturing varieties, Tiara holds well without splitting, even in the fall. Can be more densely planted than other cabbages, as close as 20cm (8") for mini heads. On the Hotchkiss Flower Farm, you often see we grow them in GreenStalks vertical gardens or pots, They will get large, even in a tower planter. This cabbage is solid, and has the best sweet flavour and texture for making coleslaw. It also stores extremely well. It does make awesome cabbage rolls. From growing experience, this is the easiest cabbage to grow in our northern climate. Tried and true for us at the Hotchkiss Flower Farm.
Mini heads.
Perfect for small gardens or dense field plantings.
Grow all season.
Organic seed.
Sow indoors and transplant outdoors from 2 weeks after the last frost date to early summer. Optimal soil temperature: 10-30°C (50-85°F). Seeds should germinate in 7-10 days.
When learning how to grow cabbage, sow 3 or 4 seeds per pot, 5mm (¼”) deep, under very bright light. Thin to the strongest plant. Space transplants 45-60cm (18-24″) apart in rows 60-90cm (24-36″) apart.
Grower note: Highly recommend using our worm casting products at planting or as a foliage application during growing season to prevent pest pressure (it’s what we do on the Hotchkiss Flower Farm to combat pests). Alternatively, floating row cover is recommended to have success growing all brassicas in our climate against cabbage worms.
