Purple Emperor Sedum
1 bare root
Sedum is a tough plant that tolerates fall time temperature swings effortlessly. As a fall cut flower filler plant, it offers beautiful clusters of tiny colourful flowers. When night time temps dip down to as low as -8°c, sedum blooms can still be harvested days after as it generally is un-phased.
As a landscape flower, sedum is generally “the last man standing” before winter sets in. Snow does not phase them, it often makes them more vibrant! Temperatures below -10°c are generally when sedum starts to look weathered. Adding sedum to the garden gives gardeners an extended season of vibrant blooms to enjoy.
The problem northern gardeners have with growing sedum is not the cold temperatures. Sedum is not a fan of a lot of water. Spring melting with water sitting stagnant during the thaw in clay soil causes sedum to drown out. Planting sedum in well draining soil , or where water can not over saturate the soil during the spring thaw will eliminate the risk of loss.
