Persian Jewels Nigella seeds are also known as Love-in-a-Mist. Its delicate appearance belies its hardy, dependable nature. Pale as a baby flower, Persian Jewel matures to intense shades of violet, blue, white, and pastels in between. Each flower emerges from a tangle of lacy foliage. After blooming, curious looking fruits ripen, dry, and eventually release seeds for the next season. These distinctive seed heads can be dried for flower arrangements. For continuous bloom, direct seed weekly until June. Nigella grows 20–50cm (8–20") tall.

Try sowing indoors, in peat or coir pots, 6-8 weeks before planting out after last frost. Better luck may come from direct sowing outdoors 1-2 weeks before last frost when some risk of frost still exists, and then sow again every three weeks for the next 3 months. Optimal soil temperature for germination: 18-21°C (65-70°F). Seeds should sprout in 8-15 days.
Just cover the small seeds. Aim for a final spacing of 20-30cm (8-12″).
