Every garden needs Liatris!! NOT EVEN KIDDIND! Liatris are so pretty mass planted, they are a best seller to florists and beloved in late summer, fall bouquets. They also dry very well. Most importantly, the pollinators are obsessed with this stuff. One of the only times I have seen a hummingbird 2 years in a row here in Manning was in the liatris patch. Liatris is very cold tolerant, I am confident they would thrive in growing zone 1. This mix of white and purple will make you smile every time you walk past them blooming, promise!
 
Plant corms 3" deep and 4 to 5" apart in well draining loamy or sandy soil. They do not like clay and prefer dryer soil. After planting keep soil moist to help them establish. Adding worm castings at planting can help them root and soil stay moist in the root zone. Once established they are very drought tolerant and require pretty much nothing from you other than your admiration.
