10 pack, The Bride, De Caen Anemone

Anemones are a beautiful cut flower. They like cool temperatures and do best planted out when night time temps reach about  5 degrees C. From the time they start to root, they take 90 days to bloom, and will continue to bloom as they are cut. They will go dormant when the soil reaches 25 degrees C.

To pre sprout: about 2 to 3 weeks before your plant out date, soak the dry corms in cool water for about 40 minutes to an hour. Place the corms into well moistened potting soil and just cover them. Put a cover over the top on the soil and place somewhere dark and cool for 2 weeks. Check to make sure they are not dried out during this rooting period. If they seem dry, mist the top of the soil. Too much moisture will cause rot. After two week check to see if the corms have roots sprouting. If you see white roots, they are ready to plant. If some havent rooted yet, they can still be planted out.

To Plant Out: Amend soil with worm castings, glacial rock dust and compost. I reccomend using Superworm Soil as the amendment (Available here in 30L bags). Plant corms 3 to 4 inched deep, 4 to 6 inches apart. Roots up, pointy side down. Cover with a layer of leaves. Water in well. If it freezes, they will be okay, even if they have foliage, it will grow back after a freeze. Feed 2 weeks after planting.

Skip Pre Sprout: You can direct sow. Dig holes or trech and fill with water. Refill with water until it is holding water. Drop corms in and cover them up with amended potting soil. Be sure they are 4 inches deep and soil is amended. Leaf mulch on top.

To Save Corms for next year: Dig the corms out after the foliage has died back. Clean the soil off of the corm and make sure it is dry. Place corms in a paper bag and store someplace cool and dark. Do not let corms freeze when they are not in soil. They will not revive if frozen when they are dormant. Can be stored for up to 2 years.
